Childrens Games

One area of research we are interested in investigating is the effect of sketch recognition in education. We are interested in not only creating tools to aid teachers, but are also interested in utilizing recognition technologies to create games to help children learn. We have created such a game, "Learn Your Shapes!", that helps children learn basic shapes with the help of our low level recognizer, PaleoSketch. Unlike traditional learning methods which require children to perform visual recall through matching, our system allows children to actually draw a particular shape. This enhances both recall and motor skill. Such interaction may prove to be more helpful for children who learn better through kinesthetic or tactile methods, rather than traditional auditory and visual learning techniques.
